Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Allaahu Akbar, Laa ilaaha il-lAllaah, Allaahu Akbar Allaahu Akbar, Wa Lil-laahil-hamd

(Allaah is the Greatest, Allaah is the Greatest, Allaah is the Greatest, there is no god but Allaah; Allaah is the Greatest and to Allaah be all praise)

Duaa (prayer) before you study

Bismillah Al-Rahman Al-Rahiim,

Most of us experience difficulties in concentration during studying..
Here are my advises about that:

1st, you should prepare the place around you.. make sun enter your room, smell fresh air, or even get good light source to help your eyes maintain focus (note, the focus lamp should be a 2nd source, not to be lighted alone, or it would lead to unequal light distribution which exhausts eyes and brain)

2nd, go on have a Wudu, (or wash) having your hands, face, arms and legs washed, and head swapped, and pray a couple of Rakaat.

3rd, sit peacefully on your chair and read Surat al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas (stated below)

and say a small duaa:
"اللهم لا سهل إلا ما جعلته سهلا وأنت تجعل الحزن إن شئت سهلا"
Allahumma la sahl illa ma jaaltahu sahlan, wa anta tajaalu alhuzn in shiita sahla
"O'Allah, there's nothing easy but what you've made easy... and you make grief/sorrow -with your will- easy."

4th, if you like to have a drink, I would recommend cinnamon with ginger, or ginger with lemon, both have stimulant effects and with the pleasant aroma and sweet taste, your senses are refreshed. prepared by simmering in hot water for 5 minutes then boiling and deserting, lemon is to be added before drinking, if green, and to be boiled if dried.

then after you've finished, you may say this duaa:
"اللهم انى استودعك ما حفظت وما قرأت فرده على عند حاجتى, انك على ما تشاء قدير وحسبنا الله ونعم الوكيل"
Allahumma inni astawdiuka ma hafiztu wama qaraatu, faruddahu alayya iinda hajati, innaka ala ma tashau quadeer, wahasbuna Allahu wa niima alwakil

"O'Allah, I preserve what I've read and kept in Your Hands, so return it back to me in need, coz you're all-powerful, and Allah is Sufficient for us! Most Excellent is He in Whom we trust!

Notes:

Pay attention to your nutrition, drink milk, eat fruits like banana, and eat plenty of cereals.. and of course, stay away from fast, canned, and packed food ^__^

Take sufficient amount of sleep, each person differs in the required amount enough to comfort the body.

Stay away from any things that could reduce your alertness of mind, or any things that could affect your mentality.

Some drugs, like antihistamines, produce sedation, so take such drugs before sleep, consult your doctor.

How to help retain what you read or study?

  4. Wa Alaikom Salam,

Thank you, friend for your kind comment.

to retain what you've studied, you should 1st study it the right way:

1- healthy food is a must, fruits are perfect but stay away from sugar.. an omega 3 supply is very good for memory strength.

2- start with a vacant mind, no other problems to think in, and prepare your mood to respect the time of study.

3- use all your senses while you study.. speak up, to hear your voice reading, use pencil to mark while studying, you can even turn a hard piece of information into a caricature shape to let it be remembered with that shape.

4- when you feel full-minded with information, get a nap to refresh your mind and arrange information in the right sectors of your brain.

5-if preparing a brief abstract of the section you study could benefit in your revision, then do it.

6- After all, waking up early, praying fajr and studying could be the best way to benefit from all your brain abilities.

7- keeping gymnastic training is very advisable, and it is a very good lifestyle to get used to.

    Wish you all tawfiq.

    hope I helped, friend.
